How to Improve Your Baby Photography
60Your just a click away from improving your baby photography...
When you have a new baby it's natural to get out the camera and start taking pictures, but how to you get your pictures to have the same look as the pros? In this article we'll look at some basic tips that will help you get the pictures of your baby that you've always wanted. Getting your baby pictures to look just right isn't as hard as you might think.
Experiment with lighting. If your infant is a newborn a flash will be too upsetting. It will hurt young eyes and scare your baby. Instead try to use natural light. Window light on a bright day should provide you with all the light you need to get a good picture. You can also use various lamps and lights available in the room. If the room is dimly lit control the amount of light that your camera needs to take a good picture by adjusting your ISO and aperture settings.
Try different angles. Photographing the baby from different angles will give a different look to your baby photography. You can take a picture from higher up to show how small the baby is. You can take pictures to make the baby seem larger than life. You can take pictures at eye level with the baby to really explore the baby's world.
Interact with the baby. Playing with and talking to your baby while you're photographing will help make the pictures look more natural. Try using props to add interest to the photo and give the baby something to do. An infant who is being engaged will laugh, smile and look more relaxed.
Frame your photo. Framing out what you want in your baby picture and how you want it to look will help you get a good composition. You may want to only include the baby's arm, legs or hand in the picture. You may want a picture of the baby sleeping in a parent's arms. You may want to include the child's toys in the picture. There are so many possibilities.
Wait for the right moment. Infants don't follow your instructions very well. You need to let them do what they do naturally and wait for the right expression to take the picture. Don't get frustrated. Sometimes you have to wait to get the baby picture you want.

Thanks for good tips--they can be useful with young children, too, I think.
